BASIC FUNCTION

Create innovative concepts, products, experiences, and human interfaces through the design thinking process while recognizing the influences from manufacturing, marketing, engineering, cost and timing.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities:

1. Design innovative products and take the designs from concept through implementation.

2. Understand our consumers. Translating their needs to beautiful and meaningful products.

3. Monitor and maintain the competitive landscape of the product category information for better user and product experience benchmarking.

4. Help the team and the category to grow.

Major Tasks:

1. Create beautiful products with good aesthetic styling and CMF.

2. Lead the project and work closely with all new product development departments, especially Engineering, Marketing, and Manufacturing, in a team atmosphere achieving new product design requirements.

3. Understand our target users and incubate innovative ideas that are meaningful, for gracious living.

4. Execute user research, concept ideation, 3D modeling/rendering, and product presentations.

5. Plan the product category strategy in a holistic view. Maintain current awareness of consumer competitor product offerings including product design trends globally.

Profile:

1. Good three-dimensional styling capability. Furniture design experience is a plus.

2. Experience launching products successfully from ideation phase to the manufacturing phase. Experience working for a design consultancy is a plus.

3. Leverage user insights with human center design thinking.

4. Challenge himself/herself and no fear to break boundaries.

RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS

Supervisory Relationships:

1. Reports to the Design Manager

Organization Relationships:

1. Works alongside ID, Engineering, Marketing, Communications, and Manufacturing in a team environment.

External Business Relationships:

1. Occasional contact with design consultants.

2. Occasional contact with vendors and suppliers.

3. Attends industry trade shows and seminars as needed to maintain awareness of competitor products, designs, and overall consumer product design trends.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s Degree from accredited university or college of design with academic emphasis on product design. Typically has 3-5 years of experience in industrial design.Experience launching products successfully from ideation phase to the manufacturing phase. Experience working for a design consultancy is a plus.
